patrick shearn has suspended ‘liquid shard’ above visitors to los angeles’ pershing square. the large-scale public sculpture spans 15,000 square feet, rising from 15 to 115 feet off the ground. made out of holographic mylar and monofilament, the inspiration for the piece ‘comes from observing nature and the feeling that we are only aware on a very surface level of what is really going on around us,’ shearn says. ‘unexpected things are revealed in time-lapse or hyper-spectrum photography that fascinate me.’
